In the deepest, darkest depths of the internet, top glovers from the East Coast and the West Coast battled it out in the elimination style Gloving Masters Online tournament for the title of gloving’s “best coast.”
Okay, so maybe not the deepest, darkest depths of the internet, but it happened on the internet, at least. In a slew of victories utilizing some downright incredible force and insane technical skill, Hawaiian native [IM] Puppet tore through the first 6 east coast competitors, a list that included DMV favorite [CL] Outlaw, Florida’s [C9] Allay, and New England’s hometown hero, [NL] React Shun.
Here’s my personal favorite show from Puppet’s 6-0 streak, his submission against Florida’s own [AAG] Bojangles.
Puppet’s streak ended as he was finally taken down by the dial heavy beast [AAG] Crafty.
“I was in utter shock that I took down the Chroma God we all know and love, Puppet,” Crafty said. “It was an honor to face off against such a well respected, humble and skilled glover!”
Crafty would also go on to eliminate me, [UV] Flow, before being stopped by NorCal alien [UFL] E.T.
Crafty vs. E.T. would go down as one of the best dial and tech heavy battles of all time. With an incredible display of finger stacking and technical concepts, E.T. took the win over Crafty, only to be paired against the 16-year-old Florida phenom, [MOB] Vex. Vex, considered by most to be one of the best glovers in the game right now, had his work cut out for him going up against E.T. However, he managed to win 3 matches in a row: E.T., Hawaiian glover [4D] D!rect, and the newest addition to the [PLL] family, Mirage.
The match with Mirage was actually recorded in the EmazingLights studio as a featured GMO matchup.
Many east coast glovers hoped for an “east coast revival,” as 3 of the west coast hard hitters were taken down by the young prodigy. This pit him against one of the best from the west, [PM] Rhapsode.
“Rhapsode vs. Vex was the best match in my opinion,” said Arizona glover [KLU] Hypnotoad, one of the GMO Official judges. “It was by far the hardest to judge due to both of them being so into showmanship and precision.”
I couldn’t agree more. I don’t envy the judges who had to judge that round. In a match for the history books, Rhapsode’s incredibly profound display of raw talent managed to snag him the win over Vex, and a win for the west coast as a whole.
“Rhapsode just had the better overall musicality, and cleanliness,” GMO creator [PM] LaLaBy explained. “Vex delivered a great show, but by comparison, he was outdone in the musicality department.”
In the end, the west coast reigned supreme. This online tournament was a perfect precursor to the upcoming International Gloving Championship, held in Santa Ana, California on Saturday, October 10th at the Yost Theater. Many glovers are flying in from all corners of the country to compete, many from the east coast. Will Vex and the east coast get redemption at IGC? Or will the west coast reign supreme yet again?
Seattle's first individually sponsored glover. Appreciator of all things light shows. Likes long walks on the beach, music of all sorts, and bright lights in his facial region.
